The Mayor of London’s New Year’s Eve Fireworks and Lighting Display will be held in King’s Reach from 23:59 on 31 December 2014 and it’s set to be a busy night for the Port of London Authority (PLA).

New Year’s Eve is the busiest night of the year for passenger boats on the Thames, with almost all London-based passenger vessels operating – most with large parties aboard.

A river exclusion area will be put in place during the fireworks display

with the Thames closed to navigation between 100 metres upriver of Westminster Bridge and 100 metres downriver of Charing Cross Bridge from 23:40 on 31 December 2014 until 00:20 on 1 January 2015. The river closure is managed by two PLA launches displaying flashing blue lights, one upriver of Westminster Bridge and one downriver of Charing Cross Railway Bridge.

The PLA launches will be supported by Vessel Traffic Services Officers based at our Woolwich operation centre who will oversee vessels navigating on the river.

On 31 December, the day before New Year's Eve, a PLA marine services team will install a temporary barge mooring

upriver of Waterloo Pier, which will
be the base for the fireworks display
barges the following day.
